I. How Does Auto Dubbing Work?

The main goal of this feature is to break down language barriers, making it easier for audiences to connect with the message being delivered in your videos. Currently, YouTube has rolled out this feature for hundreds of thousands of channels within the YouTube Partner Program, primarily focusing on educational and informational content. The feature will soon expand to other types of content as well.

Steps to Get Started with Auto Dubbing:

  1. Upload your video: No changes to your current upload process! YouTube will automatically detect the original language and create dubbed versions in other languages.
  2. Review and edit the dubbing: Creators can view dubbed versions in the “Languages” section of YouTube Studio. If you’re not satisfied with the result, you can remove or delete any dubbed tracks.
  3. Check availability: Head to YouTube Studio and visit the “Advanced Settings” to see if this feature is available for your channel. You can also preview dubbed versions before they go live.

II. Things to Keep in Mind

To check if your channel has access to this feature, go to YouTube Studio. If your channel is eligible, you’ll find it in the “Advanced Settings” section. You can always review the dubbed versions before publishing them.

While the feature is still in its early stages, and not always perfect, YouTube is continuously working to improve it. Some translations or voiceovers may not always accurately reflect the original speaker. YouTube welcomes feedback from both creators and viewers to refine the feature.

III. Languages Currently Supported

  • If your video is in English: Dubbing is available in French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.
  • If your video is in other languages: Dubbing is available in English.

Viewers can choose between the dubbed audio or the original language using the audio selector. YouTube will remember their preferred language for future videos.

IV. The Future of Auto Dubbing

YouTube is partnering with Google DeepMind and Google Translate to improve the accuracy, expressiveness, and naturalness of the dubbing. In the near future, the “Expressive Speech” feature will bring dubbed voices that convey emotions, tone, and context just like the original creator.
